Start Up Your Blog

It’s time to claim the space where you will publish your portfolio this semester, and where you will post journals, essay drafts, and, occasionally, homework or classwork this semester.

1) Go to learnerblogs.org and choose a Username, Blog title (This Must Be Classroom Appropriate—Don’t Even Cut It Close), give them your school email address, and click “Create your learner blog.” Your main goal (aside from having a clean Blog title) is choosing a unique username.  Your URL will be based on your username and no two URL’s can be alike, right?

2) Login to your school email account. You should have received an email from Learnerblogs that provides you with a link and a password.  Please forward me this email so that I can link you into DeBoy’s Blog.  (adeboy@bham.wednet.edu)

3) Now that you’re in, click Presentation at the top of the Dashboard screen and choose the “theme” that best suits your tastes.  You do have taste, no?

4) Click Write at the top of your page and write your first posts:

 a) Publish the final drafts from your portfolio (personal essay, definition essay, film review, reflection).  I recommend doing this by making four different posts.  Give each post the name of your essay, then copy and paste your final draft from your disk or H:drive to the window where you are to write your post.  If you cannot do this today, take the necessary steps so you can do this during the final period (4th and 6th, Monday; 5th, Tuesday).  Once you learn how to do this, teach your peers how!!  We need many portfolios published before we begin reading and commenting on them.

b) Read as many of your peers’ portfolios as time allows (they should become accessible as you all forward your learnerblog url emails to me).  Comment (with respect and intelligence) on at least five, noting the best essay and other strengths or good passages.
